Hello everyone! Lately, everyone is getting new emails, new journals and new starts... And I am no exception.
My LJ username is uauauaua (that's four UAs), and my new MSN address is rowan.h@live.co.uk.
I've already added some people on both, but it's a little hard to keep up with. If you want to keep in contact or even if you've not spoken to me before, go ahead and add me on both accounts!
I've been on Livejournal a few months over five years (I think) and last time I got a new LJ it was because I was a completely different person from the 11-year-old I was when I first made it. This time, I don't think I have changed very much as a person but I do think I'm in need a change, even a small one like this. Bye! |

This post is about a song.
The song is called They Have A Name, and it is by the lovely pop group The Chap.
I am going to write about it at this moment in time because at this moment in time it has consumed me.
I'm not good at describing music, how it makes me feel, but there are certain categories that my favourite songs go into in my head. They Have A Name belongs to one of the categories, and if I really had to describe it I would say it is like a journey to a sunrise, but there are lots of other things rising along with all that light and beauty and colour. This song epitomises it to me. It starts as the journey when it's a dark and grey and everyone is sleepy, and then the sunrise happens at 1:08. It's like the megabus journey I had when the sun rose and everyone was beautiful. The harmonies in the song are so beautiful and perfect, so many parts but it just sounds like one part, one big part. There are so many tiny bits of the song and none are misplaced.
I looked for a live video of it and I found one. The quality of the video is not very good - the camerawork is just plain lame, the video quality itself is somewhat poor, the beginning of the song is cut off and the sound, as with all live videos, nowhere near matches the sound of the song on record... and compared to what it probably sounds like in person (I wouldn't know, sadly), just... a ridiculous difference, I'm sure.
But the reason I've been watching that video over and over for the entire day is their performance. Every tiny thing they do makes me just want to cry with love and admiration and inspiration. Johannes' dancing is... not anything particularly special in terms of dance moves, but to me it seems so genuine and wonderful. The way he sort of twitches at the start, jerks his leg, then his arm gestures and shaking of hips and his hand gestures in time with his "ooooohh"s. And then he plays the guitar part so easily and smoothly and jumps and lands just exactly on the keyboard hit. He grins now and then and turns to look at Keith and I don't know whether it's just the strain of playing or whether he's happy but I suspect that he is very, very happy, whether or not that is what the grin means.
And then Panos in his shorts and trainers stumbling about with the violin is one of the most strangely wonderful things I've seen. At a glance it seems he has no idea what he's doing with the violin, making it screech like that, but I don't even care, he plays it so fast and precisely whether or not he knows what the notes are (he probably does, being a student of music for a long time) and the way he kind of waves his arms in between playing it, like he is so desperate to get more notes out of it but the time isn't quite right until a few seconds later when he can attack it again. When it gets to them shouting "heart throb", Johannes hitting his chest and then punching the air and then doing both at once and looking so enthusiastic is wonderful. Wonderful.
I don't think I've written so much in one go about a song or a video... It makes me feel a little bad, because it isn't like this is my favourite song at all, but the song and the performance captured me at this moment and I felt the need to talk about it. Perhaps one day, I will go back to that list of favourite songs I had and find a way to write about what they all mean to me. Maybe one day. |

CARDIACS. EVERYONE'S FAVE BAND. (WHETHER THEY KNOW IT OR NOT) compiled by Rowan and Eleanor

CARDIACS are a self-proclaimed pop group. They are a pop group that existed a long time before a lot of other pop groups and happened around the time of the Sex Pistols, but we get the feeling they weren't really concerned with all that snarly rubbish. They just scrubbed up real smart and nice and made themselves look their best, and wrote some nice songs like THIS when they were only very young. CARDIACS have been playing and making music and doing things like pissing off viewers of the show 'The Tube' and lying to the tabloids for a great number of years, now. They are looked after by the somewhat shady Alphabet Business Concern who naturally, are very concerning. Although it was Tim Smith wot started the CARDIACS, a lot of people have played for the band. And here they are. Tim Smith, Jim Smith, Kavus Torabi, Bob Leith, Melanie Woods, Cathy Harabaras, Ralph Cade, Mark Cawthra, William D. Drake, Sharron Fortnam a.k.a Sophie, Stephen Gilchrist, Christian Hayes a.k.a. Bic, Marguerite Johnson, Clare Lemmon, Dominic Luckman, Colvin Mayers, Jon Poole, Michael Pugh, Tim Quy, Graham Simmonds, Sarah Smith, Jo Spratley, Dawn Staple and Peter Tagg. ( Read more... ) You can't really write about CARDIACS and their music, because it came before a lot of clever genre names. Instead we say it sounds a little bit like this. If Cardiacs now interest you now, for easy listening purposes (due to Cardiacs having hundreds of songs) there is a small compilation of a few of the BEST tracks that Cardiacs have done. HERE IT IS! (For people who have downloaded this before, this version is slightly different and has two more tracks.) If you don't like that link for some reason, I will upload it somewhere else for you if you ask. |
